Parents Association

At Marin Primary & Middle School, every parent is a member of our vibrant Parents Association (PA). Our PA holds an important place in the community as it organizes many events and programs during the course of the school year. These activities, including many longstanding traditions within our community, enhance the MP&MS experience for students and parents alike.
 
We encourage all parents in our community to help with an event or committee. A broad range of skill sets is welcome and commitments can be as easy as volunteering for a one-day event to taking on a larger committee chair position.
 

Ways to Get Involved

Family Fun Festival

Our school community gathers to welcome families and faculty/staff to the new year. It is a fun way for children and adults to enjoy music, games, and delicious food. Volunteers are needed to plan and staff this event. In addition to planning (in conjunction with the Development Office), volunteers are needed for decorating, setup and breakdown, staffing various stations, and assisting with event supervision, among other things.

Friends of the Library (FOL)

The FOL support the school’s David Hale Library by promoting literacy; planning and running Book Fest, our annual celebration of literacy; and supporting library activities and events throughout the year. Trained FOL volunteers also work on a weekly basis to check-out and re-shelve books.

Events include: Book Fest Family Night at Book Passage – November 21, 2019; Other – throughout year

Green Team

The Green Team spearheads environmental education and awareness activities that support the school’s efforts to “go green,” including reducing carbon emissions via Walk & Roll to School days, composting, encouraging no- waste lunches, recycling, and championing off-campus community/environmental service activities for families.

Timing: Throughout school-year
Events Include: Walk & Roll (monthly); Family Community Service Days (fall and spring)

Outdoor Education Center (OEC)

Our OEC team is made up of parents who are interested in supporting the OEC specialist in maintaining our school’s beautiful garden. This group helps with planting and small building or repair jobs. Other responsibilities include the organization of the annual Harvest Festival.

Timing: Throughout school-year
Events Include: Harvest Festival (October 18, 2019) and Spring Cleanup (Spring TBD)

Halloween Parade

This is a perfect place for volunteers who love to celebrate Halloween! This group decorates the campus for the holiday, monitors the all-school parade, and provides refreshments for parent viewers. Volunteers are needed to help set up, supervise the parade, and clean up.

Annual Auction & Celebration

Our school’s largest event-based fundraiser is made possible only by the team of parent volunteers who plan and execute this event. Volunteers are needed with skills and interests ranging from solicitations of donated items for our live and silent auctions, database management, event planning and project management, copy writing and editing, website building, budgeting, decorating, event design, and more. Planning for this significant event begins in the early fall.

Teacher & Staff Appreciation

The Teacher and Staff Appreciation team celebrates our teachers during our own Teacher Appreciation week in May. We decorate the staff lounge, bring food, hand out goody bags, and hold raffles to make it even more fun. Your creative ideas are welcome!
