Special Announcement from Sam Cross, Board Chair

Dear MP&MS Community,

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I am delighted to announce the board has unanimously approved Peter McCormack as the Interim Head of Marin Primary & Middle School, effective November 30th, 2020. Peter has had a distinguished career as an educator spanning over 40 years and is exceptionally qualified to lead MP&MS through the 2020-21 school year. Peter is an accomplished school leader who brings a broad array of experiences to MP&MS.

Peter began his career as a Physics teacher in West Sussex, England. After teaching for many years throughout Europe he moved to Beaver Country Day School in Chestnut Hill, MA. During his time at Beaver Country Day, Peter held multiple positions including Science Department Chair, Dean of Students, and Director of Admissions. In 1993, he became Head of Rolling Hills Prep in southern California and remained there for twenty-five year until his retirement in 2018.

Following his short-lived retirement, Peter stepped back into the Head role serving as Interim Head at The Episcopal School of Los Angeles, which was intended to be a one year position, but by request of the board turned into a longer-term assignment.

The Interim Head Search Committee, which consisted of teachers, administrators and trustees, found Peter to be warm, thoughtful, and experienced in curating high-quality relationships in the small schools he has led. His experience fostering schools is an excellent match for MP&MS, while his background and educational philosophies are strongly aligned with our school’s mission and values.

We are eager to introduce Peter to the MP&MS community and look forward to welcoming him onto campus once we return from the Thanksgiving break. More information regarding virtual meetings during which time students, faculty, staff and parents can meet and get to know Peter will be communicated shortly.

I want to extend my sincere gratitude to all members of our community for their commitment to MP&MS during this transitional period. I am particularly grateful to our Interim Head Search co-Chairs, Mead Blum and Eileen Sheldon. Their dedication and countless hours in accomplishing this appointment in a condensed time period was extraordinary.

Warm regards,

Sam
