Message from Head of School Phil Gutierrez

Dear MP&MS community,

It’s a great joy to write this letter from my new office. I’ve been looking forward to my arrival since I was fortunate to receive the offer from the board and am absolutely delighted to be part of the MP&MS community. I want to acknowledge Interim Head of School Peter McCormack for his leadership in service of our school. I thank him deeply for making a smooth transition possible.

For many years as a high school educator, I have had the pleasure of working with MP&MS alumni. MP&MS nurtures students’ compassion for others, fosters academic growth, and celebrates each individual journey through school and life. MP&MS students leave their primary and middle school years ready to take on any challenge. They are eager to make a positive impact on those around them. In the classroom, on the stage, and on the fields, MP&MS students distinguish themselves beautifully.

This summer, I’ve had a number of meetings with faculty and staff, as well as with the Leadership Team. My purpose in these meetings is to learn as much about MP&MS as possible and to connect with my new colleagues. Already, some common themes have emerged. First and foremost, faculty and staff have a deep love for our school, mission, and students. One person said, “MP&MS is a school where you can be yourself.” Another added, “It’s a place I love coming back to every year.” An administrator chimed in, ‘We’re an intentional community where children are valued and known as individuals and learners.”

My colleagues’ commitment to MP&MS is palpable in every one of these conversations. Most importantly, I have loved hearing my colleagues talk about your children. In them, the faculty and staff see an eager group of learners that fill the adults with joy and optimism. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing some of our summer campers on campus, and I can’t wait to see all the students return in August.

Go Panthers!

Warm regards,
