Academic Leadership

Andrew Slater, Head of School

Andrew Slater joined MP&MS in July 2017, after an extensive national Head Search. Andrew began his teaching career at the Bank Street School for Children in New York City and has held the role of Head of School at the Logan School in Denver and the Edmund Burke School in Washington D.C. Most recently, Andrew was Founding Associate Head of GEMS World Academy in Chicago. Andrew holds a Master of Educational Administration from Harvard University and a Master of Elementary Education from Bank Street College. He graduated with honors with a B.A. in History from Lewis and Clark College. Andrew grew up outside of Boston and in New York City and has ties to Marin County as his wife, Lisa, is a graduate of Redwood High School. His experience fostering thriving schools is an excellent match with our long-term strategic initiatives, while his background and educational philosophy are strongly aligned with our school’s mission and values.

Amy Taylor, Preschool Director

Amy received a Bachelor of Arts and Multiple Subject teaching credential at Westmont College in Santa Barbara and a Reading Specialist teaching credential from Saint Mary’s College Graduate School of Education in Moraga. She began her educational career as a preschool teacher, and these formative years provided her with a strong foundation and knowledge of child development and a deeply ingrained love and respect for children’s natural curiosity and boundless potential. In addition to teaching at the preschool level, Amy also has extensive experience as a second grade teacher, reading specialist, and mentor for new teachers. She has developed parent education programs, implemented staff development and teacher trainings, and served on leadership teams. For the past thirteen years, Amy has held the role of Learning Specialist at Marin Primary & Middle School, offering individual and small group student support, assessment, and enrichment. With a focus on the primary school, Amy has effectively partnered with students, parents, and teachers to support student learning and growth. Her role in the area of student assessment and the screening of incoming JK and Kindergarten students helps ensure successful student transitions from preschool to primary school. Her demonstrated ability to forge dynamic working relationships, her strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, and her intimate familiarity with the culture and curriculum at MP&MS make her an ideal fit to lead our thriving preschool. Amy’s three sons all spent their preschool years at MP&MS. Her oldest son, an MP&MS graduate, is now a freshman in high school. Her younger two sons are currently in third and fifth grade at MP&MS. As a longstanding parent in our community, Amy has a unique perspective to offer as she becomes an integral member of the MP&MS leadership team.
