Opening Minds in the LMC

Students love discovering the world through the David Hale Library Media Center (LMC). The library program is shaped to support the school curriculum, to stimulate and encourage children’s use of books for informational needs, for research assignments and for recreational and enrichment purposes. The librarian consults with teachers, staff, and parents to select books and magazines that support these objectives.

Our enthusiastic library staff chooses and has read much of our collection, enabling them to make informed book recommendations to all levels of readers. This much care and attention to reading encouraged MP&MS students to read more than 20,000 books last year.

Our LMC is not just a room full of books, however. We provide an array of information resources including computers, audio, and video resources alongside our bookshelves. Our library staff and technology specialists work closely with faculty to assist them in supplementing classroom lessons and projects with rich detail from a variety of sources. The LMC staff gives regular lessons about how to use the library and information technology, facilitating the development of the information literacy so critical for success in the 21st century.

We are proud of the fact that our library collection includes materials that encompass the beliefs and ideologies of the diverse groups that are represented in our school population. The collection also includes information on the many different peoples that constitute our global community to provide windows for students into the lives and cultures of people around the world.
